More About Me
Originally from New England, I landed in NC in 2009, by way of Florida, Tennessee, and, briefly, the UK. In that time, I worked in publishing, waited tables, started multiple businesses, found my way into and mostly back out of investment real estate, and generally did everything I could to avoid doing work that didn’t matter to me for someone who didn’t appreciate it.
My most important work was as a cofounder of The Mothership (a shared workspace, retail collective, and event space). It was there, many years ago, that I fell in love with coaching. Humans are incredible and capable of so much. What gets in our way most is not a lack of ability, but our own brains convincing us that we can’t.
Once in a yoga class, I was taught that in order to do a headstand, I would need to actively ignore the danger signals my brain would be sending to the rest of my body. Being upside-down can be dangerous, and so our nervous system tries to protect us by making the act uncomfortable, so we’ll cut it out, ASAP. That is, until we’ve done it enough that our body understands we are safe and stops sounding the alarm.
So it is with life. Some of the most worthwhile things are some of the most terrifying. Our brain says “We can’t do this! Turn around, please!” because it’s trying to protect us from (perceived) danger. Thank you, brain. I’m sure you have protected me from doing lots of unwise things in my life, but sometimes I need you to be quiet so that I can grow into new places, new roles, or new work. Think of someone you admire - someone who’s done exactly what you want to do. The biggest difference between you and them is that they overcame their fear, their overwhelm, their insecurity (the list goes on) to pursue something they wanted. That’s it.
This can be a scary journey, but that’s why I’m here. In coaching, we partner in your growing into the best version of yourself so that you can find success where success is most important to you.
I don’t take this work lightly. As much as I’m energized by it, I’m also humbled and grateful to be part of the process. Does my story resonate with you? Let’s chat.
